The East Bank of the Nile in Luxor is known as the "Land of the Living," a bustling center for commerce, city life, and grand temples like the Karnak Temple Complex and Luxor Temple, connected by the recently restored Avenue of Sphinxes. In contrast to the West Bank, which was the necropolis for the dead, the East Bank housed the main city of ancient Thebes and is where most of the city's hotels, markets, and museums are located today.
